beauty and the beast

I'm a creature of habit and I like my routine.  Once I get set in it, making a change can be hard.  And it's come to my attention that this is precisely the problem with my morning routine--which includes make-up and hair.  I've gotten comfortable with doing the same thing the same way, and it's to the point where I've got to tackle the beast...which is exactly what change can be--a beast {and for all of you out there with middle schoolers--I mean beast as in "bad", not beast as in "good"}.

I've been searching for new ideas and ways to freshen-up my style so that I'm not stuck in this rut anymore--here's what I've found.

Check out how to make this perfect bun at
{she has a video tutorial so it's super easy!}

Or, learn how to do the backwards braid at Hair Romance

And I loved this from McLaughlin Designs

As for the make-up....

I thought this was really useful
I've also tried to add some color to my hands with some fun nail polish.
Here are a few of my most recent favorites:
"First Mate" by China Glaze

"Mermaid's Tears" by O.P.I

and "Coral Fever" by Sally Hansen

I also fell in love with this idea
 ...and was pumped when I found the sparkly gold nail decals at Wal-Mart this weekend on sale for $5 (regularly $8.50).

So, I guess we'll see what happens.  I am officially a work-in-progress.
Hopefully the beauty fairy comes to visit me in my dreams tonight. :)

Boots!

Last year, I caught the riding boot bug too late--it was the end of winter, most sizes were gone, and whatever was left wasn't on a very good sale.  So this year, I'm on it early...and so are the stores.

Not only that, but it's all over Pintrest.  I'm totally inspired!

I love these boots and I can't wait until Fall to wear them.  If you're looking for the perfect pair of riding boots, here are a few good deals that I found.

$44.94

$42.00

$45.50

Anyone up for some boot shopping?!

T-shirt Scarf DIY

Even though the heat index is still in the upper 90s in Florida, I've got Fall on the brain.  I don't know about you, but when I think of Fall, I think of scarves.
{of course, in some northern states, scarves are a reality year-round....yeah.  not. in. florida.}

This t-shirt scarf requires a level 1 crafting ability.  No sewing ability required {awesome!}.  If you can use scissors, you can make it.
Here is the finished product that you have to look forward to
image from hellohoneyno

Let's get to work!

Supplies:
                      :: scissors
                      :: large or xl t-shirt in a solid color

Steps:
      1 :: cut hem off of bottom of t-shirt and set aside
      2 :: lay tshirt out flat on a table
      3 :: cut t-shirt into horizontal strips 1/2"-1" wide all the way up to the
           armpit of the shirt {the thinner they are, the more you'll get out of the
           shirt}
      4 :: after all strips are cut, take grouping of 3 or 4 and stretch them out
                                            {as shown in picture below}
image from method
     5:: re-group all strips and drape around your neck then wrap or double
          them to create the thickness you desire.
 It creates a cow-neck style so there's no need to sew together or stitch up!

You can mix colors too--use 2 different color t-shirts and create a multi-colored scarf!  Super easy, super cute!  Mine took me 15 minutes to make and cost me nothing {since I stole a shirt from my hubby} :)

Have Fun!

Summer Deals

Summer is here {pretty much}!  It's time to stock up on those shorts!  I've always had a hard time finding shorts that weren't ridiculously short since
1. my legs are long and
2. short shorts have been trending recently,
but these shorts from The Limited seemed to be a little more of a decent length.

Here's the deal

They've got more than just khaki too...

Check it out and stock up!

Happy Summer Shopping!

Flower Fun

Even though the month of May has passed, I am still loving flowers for June {and all of summer, for that matter}.  I wanted to share with you a few cute flower items and accessories that you can either purchase online or follow the tutorial and make for yourself!  I've found these items in various places {because flowers are EVERYWHERE, you know}, so the direct link and name is shown below each one.

First, flower rings
{for sale}

She has mum flower rings and rose flower rings for only $4 each {plus tax and shipping}!  They come in a variety of colors and would make a great summer accessory!
Check it out at SloDayDesign.
You'll have to call her or email her if you'd like to purchase one of the rings.

Second, flower bookmarks
{tutorial}

Since I've been able to get back in to reading, I have wanted a cute bookmark...and you can't get much cuter than this {unless it was personalized}!
These two talented ladies over at Little Birdie Secrets give a great, easy-to-follow tutorial here.
Check it out!

Third, flower gift tags
{printables for purchase}

Sometimes, the wrapping is just as important as the gift.  If you're like me, and you love to make your gift wrapping perfect, check out this flower gift embellishment printable.
You can purchase it for $4.00 at the PaperGlitter Etsy Shop.

Fourth, rosette necklaces
{for sale}

These necklaces are available at the Ruffles 'n Such Etsy Shop for $10.00!  Jill over at Made it on Monday featured them on her blog.  So cute!

Finally, ribbon flower accessory
{tutorial}
Check out this great ribbon flower tutorial by Katie over at Something About Katie.  She has added embellishments to the flower in the picture, as well as attaching it to a headband, but you could switch things up and make it into a pin or simply sew it to a pillow.  Either way, there are only 3 supplies involved {ribbon, needle, and thread} and it's super easy!

Enjoy!

Jewelry Love

Jessica over at Jess LC is having a little contest..and I'm entering.  The requirements are to create a "designer look" that include 2 pieces of her jewelry...so here's what I came up with.

Would you believe that top is only $8 from Warehouse?!  The rest isn't so cheap, but it's pretty!

Be sure to check out all of Jess's beautiful jewelry!
