T-shirt Scarf DIY

Even though the heat index is still in the upper 90s in Florida, I've got Fall on the brain.  I don't know about you, but when I think of Fall, I think of scarves.
{of course, in some northern states, scarves are a reality year-round....yeah.  not. in. florida.}

This t-shirt scarf requires a level 1 crafting ability.  No sewing ability required {awesome!}.  If you can use scissors, you can make it.
Here is the finished product that you have to look forward to

Let's get to work!

Supplies:
                      :: scissors
                      :: large or xl t-shirt in a solid color

Steps:
      1 :: cut hem off of bottom of t-shirt and set aside
      2 :: lay tshirt out flat on a table
      3 :: cut t-shirt into horizontal strips 1/2"-1" wide all the way up to the
           armpit of the shirt {the thinner they are, the more you'll get out of the
           shirt}
      4 :: after all strips are cut, take grouping of 3 or 4 and stretch them out
                                            {as shown in picture below}
image from method
     5:: re-group all strips and drape around your neck then wrap or double
          them to create the thickness you desire.
 It creates a cow-neck style so there's no need to sew together or stitch up!

You can mix colors too--use 2 different color t-shirts and create a multi-colored scarf!  Super easy, super cute!  Mine took me 15 minutes to make and cost me nothing {since I stole a shirt from my hubby} :)

Have Fun!

Mercury Glass

Mercury glass has been a hot thing on the market for the past 6 months or so.  You can find it at most craft stores, furniture stores, and even at Target {of course, they have everything!}...and I've always liked it.  Thought it was pretty.  But never wanted to pay a whole lot for it.  Well, now I can have it {and so can you!} without paying hardly anything at all.

 According to DIY Hacks, Krylon's Looking Glass spray paint is your ticket to that inexpensive mercury glass look.

Here are the steps to get this look:
First: Spray the item (lamp, vase...anything made out of glass) with water, first.  Almost a mist so that it stays on the object instead of dripping off.
Then: Spray Krylon Looking Glass spray paint {while the object is still wet with mist}.

Outcome: The paint won't stick smoothly and evenly on the object because the water will prevent that and you'll get the distressed, silver look of Mercury Glass!

Pretty simple, huh?

Go make some Mercury Glass!

Rolled Flower Pillow Tutorial

WE ONLY NEED 1 MORE FOLLOWER!

A giveaway is just around the corner!

Hooray for summer tutorials!  Today I'm going to show you how to make a rolled flower pillow.  Once you know how to make these fun flowers, the possibilities are endless!

First-Supplies

:: pillow
:: t-shirt or other fabric
::scissors
::hot glue

Step 1: Cut tshirt or fabric into 1 long strip or a bunch of strips.
Each strip should be 1.5-2 inches wide.

The length of the strip depends on how long you'd like the flower to be.  I used the whole t-shirt, but 24"-28" in length makes a cute little rolled flower.
{you decide}

Step 2: Fold strip of fabric in half, lengthwise.

Step 3: Roll end of folded strip into a ball using a dab {or two} of hot glue.
This makes the center of the flower

Step 4: Twist the loose fabric and wrap it around the ball {center}.
Use a dab of hot glue as you wrap the twisted fabric.

As you wrap and glue, you'll see the flower starting to form.

Continue this process until your flower is as large as you want it.

I just kept going...

...and going...

...and going...

I used most of a small t-shirt.

Once you've finished rolling the fabric, I would suggested using a piece of that same fabric to cover the back of the flower.  Just spread some hot glue and cover it with the fabric.  This creates a backing that holds the twists of the flower together.
{I forgot to take a picture of that step}

Then, place your flower on your pillow.
I added some felt leaves as a finishing touch.

After you decide where you wanted the flower to go, flip it over, put some hot glue on the back and stick it to the pillow!
{sew free}
I did the same with the leaves.

Ta-da!

Your turn!

Flower Fun

Even though the month of May has passed, I am still loving flowers for June {and all of summer, for that matter}.  I wanted to share with you a few cute flower items and accessories that you can either purchase online or follow the tutorial and make for yourself!  I've found these items in various places {because flowers are EVERYWHERE, you know}, so the direct link and name is shown below each one.

First, flower rings
{for sale}

She has mum flower rings and rose flower rings for only $4 each {plus tax and shipping}!  They come in a variety of colors and would make a great summer accessory!
Check it out at SloDayDesign.
You'll have to call her or email her if you'd like to purchase one of the rings.

Second, flower bookmarks
{tutorial}

Since I've been able to get back in to reading, I have wanted a cute bookmark...and you can't get much cuter than this {unless it was personalized}!
These two talented ladies over at Little Birdie Secrets give a great, easy-to-follow tutorial here.
Check it out!

Third, flower gift tags
{printables for purchase}

Sometimes, the wrapping is just as important as the gift.  If you're like me, and you love to make your gift wrapping perfect, check out this flower gift embellishment printable.
You can purchase it for $4.00 at the PaperGlitter Etsy Shop.

Fourth, rosette necklaces
{for sale}

These necklaces are available at the Ruffles 'n Such Etsy Shop for $10.00!  Jill over at Made it on Monday featured them on her blog.  So cute!

Finally, ribbon flower accessory
{tutorial}
Check out this great ribbon flower tutorial by Katie over at Something About Katie.  She has added embellishments to the flower in the picture, as well as attaching it to a headband, but you could switch things up and make it into a pin or simply sew it to a pillow.  Either way, there are only 3 supplies involved {ribbon, needle, and thread} and it's super easy!

Enjoy!

Give Me Some Suga'!

Well, it's almost memorial day which means it's alnost time for your skin to be radiant for those outdoor festivities!  I've been needing a good exfoliant and moisturizer and found this recipe for lemon sugar scrub.  It's super simple and smells great!

ingredients:
21/2 cups sugar
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp lemon juice
lots and lots of lemons zest
{I added about 1/2 tsp of citrus essential oil to perk up the scent but it's not necessary}

...and that's all!  It's as simple as that!

On a different note, I wanted to recommend a book series that I've been read...and LOVING!

Here is a book review/summary from seattle pi.
"The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is fiction in the young adult genre, which is not my age group, but I found myself unable to put it down. Its combination of nerve-racking tension, thrilling action, and engaging love story kept me up until the wee hours. I was surprised at how completely engrossing the plot was. Like Brave New World, this story is set in a future where the government oppresses its people, but the book also borrows ideas from the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

When the book opens, North America as we know it has been destroyed and is now divided into 12 districts, ruled by an oppressive government located at the Capitol. Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old girl from District 12, takes her younger sister’s place as one of 24 “tributes” selected every year to participate in the Hunger Games at the Capitol.

The Games pit children from ages 12 to 18 against each other in a fight to the death in a giant, treacherous arena. Everything is televised and highly publicized all over the country. Katniss must not only survive the Games, but deal with a romance between her and another tribute from District 12, all the while deciding if she is willing to kill strangers her own age as a pawn of an oppressive government."

So good!  I promise!

And finally, I wanted to share a friend's website with you.  Her name is Jennifer Bennett and she is a life purpose coach. She works with people of all ages to help them determine what God's purpose and calling is in their life.

She's has been a collegue of mine in teaching for the past 5 years and highly encouraged me to start my blog {over a year ago!}She is moving out of the school system to grow her coaching business next year.

Check out her website {mysoulmission}!
She also a facebook page, lots of daily inspiration, and suggestions for good reading!

Happy Thursday!

Poppy Love

Since it's Spring and I love flowers, I wanted to share this great flower craft with you.  The great part about it is that it's inexpensive and easy--two of my favorite things!  There are multiple simple steps that I've documented and demonstrated below so, here we go!

1. Scissors
2. Piece of fabric approximately 2"x 10"-12" in size
3. Smaller piece of fabric approximately 1" x 8" in size
4. Needle and thread to match fabric color
5. Decorative button for center

 Take larger piece of fabric and {using needle and matching thread} create a running stitch along the entire length of the long edge {about an inch from the edge}

 Once the running stitch is complete, pull the thread to gather the fabric.

Tie-off/knot thread once all fabric is gathered to secure in place

Sew up the opening to make the fabric edges meet.  It should look like this when it's done...

Repeat process for 2nd, smaller piece of fabric {running stitch, gather, tie off...}

Sew up to create center of poppy

Attach button to center either by sewing or gluing

Place smaller flower in the middle of the larger flower then sew or glue to attach them together

Trim edges to look like the edges of a flower petal--curvy

Accessorize!!

So cute!
